Funds collected help support PATA's spay/neuter clinics
Charity Dog Jog, 2009
29 November saw the gathering of Manzanillo's dedicated walkers, runners and trotters. It was the Third Annual PATA Dog Jog, an event that brings out dogs and their owners to enjoy a morning tour of the Santiago Peninsula in support of PATA's animal welfare programs and spay/neuter clinics.
And they're off!
Human winners who gave their all were
- Patti Brase - 19 min. 38 sec. (3rd time winner!)
- Mario Ramirez - 23 min. 32 sec.
- Dylan Reid - 26 min. 24 sec.
- Erin Mortland - 26 min. 41 sec.
Dog winners were
- Claire with owner, Mario Ramirez
- Jade with friend, Shelley Reid
- Poppy with owner, Roberto Moran
- Sherpy with owner, Martha Ramirez
- Garrapata with owner, Maribeth Melchor Nande
Top fundraisers for the event were
- Lynn McNish -- $2,250 pesos
- Anne Pyett -- $1,600 pesos
This year's event raised more than $13,000 pesos. That'll pay for more than fifty sterilization surgeries!
The top fund-raiser won a one-night stay in Boca de Iguanas for two adults. Between forty and fifty early-risers participated in the jog, along with thirty eager doggy joggers, helping PATA raise funds to stage more clinics.

Charity Poker Tournament, 2009
Our first-ever, no-limit Texas Hold 'Em poker night was held at Oasis Ocean Club, in Club Santiago, on the 14th of January, 2009. At the same time, supporters were also able to bid on a ton of silent auction items (see below).
The sleeper success brought out thirty of Manzanillo's top poker enthusiasts, who kept five tables and five amazing volunteer-dealers hopping; and raised $10,500 pesos towards PATA Manzanillo's spay/neuter programs. The combined poker and auction event raised more than $44,000 pesos!!
The following prizes were awarded to the top five winners:
- Benny McKormick: Three-night stay for two adults in Boca de Iguanas EcoResort in the Costalegre;
- Grace McKormick: Dinner for four adults at Oasis Ocean Club;
- Mike Frizzell: Relaxing massage by certified therapist Cecilia Montana;
- Jim Simmons: Breakfast for two at Pepe's Hideaway; and
- Jimmy Brown: Dinner for two adults at El Fogon steak restaurant.
Fourth Annual Charity Silent Auction, 2009
A good cause and lots of fun brought a great turnout of animal lovers to the gorgeous Oasis Ocean Club Restaurant and Lounge located in Club Santiago. The event wrapped up a month of online bidding on auction items donated by local restaurants, tour groups, hotels and spas. We raised a record-breaking $34,000 pesos.
Items remaining on the auction block were available, online, for bidding until March 14, 2009. Bids were placed via a fill-in form, in the style of eBay, and most items had flexible expiry dates, so if one bid for an item while out-of-town, the prizes were still available to claim and use at a later date.
